HEADLINE: THE CONTINUOUS FIGHT FOR LGBTQ RIGHTS

Prompted by the spirit of tenacity and empowerment portrayed in the documentary Unarchived (NFB 2022), the Gay Liberation Front (GLF) has announced a ground-breaking program designed to promote activism and inclusivity among LGBTQ+ individuals. The film Unarchived (NFB 2022) provides an engrossing depiction of the historical significance and continuous fight for equality of the Gay Liberation Front. The movie is a moving reminder of the strength of unity and the value of conserving LGBT history. With great pride, GLF presents the “Pride Reclaimed” initiative, which aims to carry on this legacy. A multi-pronged initiative called “Pride Reclaimed” aims to celebrate diversity, empower LGBTQ+ people, and promote social justice while documenting the journey. This project embraces the current issues while embodying the fundamental principles of the Gay Liberation Front.
Working to celebrate and preserve queer history alongside LGBTQ+ organizations and archive institutions, GLF seeks to inspire future generations while commemorating the challenges and victories of LGBTQ+ pioneers through exhibitions, film screenings, and digital archives. We will be launching focused advocacy initiatives to address the most important problems that the LGBTQ+ population faces, such as legal rights, healthcare access, and discrimination. GLF aims to bring about significant change at the local, national, and worldwide levels by elevating the voices of the oppressed and organizing support from the grassroots.

“Brilliant time to be young and gay. You were suddenly being willingly out and proud for the first time and it was intoxicating. There I was in the middle of it all knowing we were on the cusp of something new and society would have to make changes.” Run Dutton said. He said this in reference to the 70s when these gay rights organizations started popping up and people started taking an interest. Dutton was an Archivist for the BC gay and lesbian archives so we see the importance in being a part of change and documenting what will one day become history.
